Why 200 by 220 matters
Most throws are sold at around 130 by 150 cm, which covers one person's lap and not much else, and is the reason households end up owning three of them and still arguing. At 200 by 220 cm this one runs end to end along a three seat sofa, covers two adults watching the same film without a negotiation, and lies over a double bed as a top layer with margin on both sides.
Lying down alone, it reaches from shoulder to foot with spare at both ends, and that spare is the difference between a blanket you keep adjusting and one you forget you are under.
The pile
Plush polyester: a deep, dense pile that is velvety to the hand and quiet when you move, with none of the papery rustle of a thin throw. It holds far more warmth than its weight suggests, so it is easy to turn over under and easy to wrap right round. The two faces match, so it goes on either way up.
Care
Thirty degrees on a gentle cycle, no bleach, no fabric conditioner. Conditioner coats the pile and is the usual reason a plush blanket goes flat. Give it the drum to itself, then tumble on low or air dry it flat or over two lines, and never iron it. Polyester holds its colour through repeated washing where cotton would fade.
Sizing, or the lack of it
Blankets are sized by their dimensions, not by height bands or letters, and here there is only one: 200 by 220 cm. There is nothing to measure yourself against and nothing to get wrong, which is why a blanket is the safest thing on this site to buy for somebody else.
The only choice is the colour. Grey is the one that stays out all year: it suits a beige sofa and a navy one, hides everyday marks a pale colour would show, and does not date. Pink is the one that gets bought as a present, arrives packaged neatly enough to hand over as it is, and looks the same after washing as it did in the photograph.
